Why Size Matters with Beaded Bracelets
One of the best reasons to support handmade jewellery is the ability to order something made to fit you not a generic size designed for mass production. This is especially important with beaded bracelets.
Most stores list bracelet sizes by length when laid flat. But this doesn’t always give a true indication of how a bracelet will feel once it’s wrapped around your wrist.
Why? Because the shape and size of beads affect how the bracelet fits when worn.
The Bead Factor: Why Length Isn’t Everything
Two bracelets might measure the same in length, but feel very different on the wrist:
- Smaller beads create a truer fit.
- Larger or irregular-shaped beads take up more room and result in a tighter fit.
That’s why I use tools like a sizing board or mandrel to plan the bead pattern and ensure your bracelet feels just right customised to your unique measurements.
How to Measure Your Wrist
It’s easy to find your wrist size at home:
- Wrap a flexible tape measure around your wrist, just above the wrist bone. It should be snug, not tight.
- If you don’t have a tape measure, use a strip of paper or string. Mark it, then measure it with a ruler.
Next, decide how you’d like your bracelet to fit.
