Metaphysical Properties: Colour

Bringing balance to our lives

colour attributes MaxineFaye

Using Colour, in any form, may benefit your physical, mental psychological or spiritual state.  Colour properties influence our choices every day – mostly without us even knowing – we even talk in colour  (“I’m feeling blue”, “He has a yellow streak”, and “She was green with envy”).

Find out more about your favourite (or least favourite) colour, the strengths, needs, affirmations, chakras and stones associated with it, by clicking on previous posts where I have touched on the “Headlines” of each colour’s properties.  I have looked at affirmations that may be suitable if you are having issues with an essence of each colour and ways we may address the lessons of each colour.

Over the next months I’ll look at other aspects of each colour properties and go into more depth of what each of these “Headline” subjects was about.  We will eventually look at the chakra each colour is associated with and touch on the Tarot Cards linked to the colour properties.

The following colour tiles will link to the posts as they are published, so bookmark this page for future reference.

There are no “Good” or “Bad” colours. They each contain both sides of the same coin.  As in Yin / Yang Philosophy, each colour exist as inseparable and contradictory opposites, for example female-male, dark-light and old-young.  In Red, the property that drives anger is the same property that can be channelled into extra energy and drive.  It is all in how the property is utilised.

Each colour sits on the colour wheel in a particular position and its opposite can be used as an “Antidote” for some of the issues.  Lets take Red again.  If you are feeling over-stimulated by its energy, then Green sitting opposite can be used to calm the situation.”

How does this work in real life?

Lets look at a situation where you are getting wound up and things are getting heated or aggressive.  Green represents space and is calming.  To use the “Antidote” you could take a break and connect with nature.  Hug a tree, sit on the grass and remember to breathe as the lungs and respiratory system also fall under Green.

If the situation is ongoing and difficult to bear.  Use one of the recommended stones/crystals for their protective or stimulative effects.

Some easy ways to use each colour properties are:-

Dress in it.  Underwear and socks are an easy way of using colours you wouldn’t usually wear.

Eat it.  Make a salad of your required coloured vegetables or fruits.

Drink it.  Put your water in a coloured bottle and let it sit in the light.  Put one of the suggested stones into a jug of water and let it sit.  Drink the water.  Ensure your stone is clean and doesn’t contain toxins.

Bathe in it.  Put flowers or crystals etc of your chosen colour into your bath.

Surround yourself with it.  Paint your room.  Add accessories.

Wear it.  Use jewellery to add the colours you require.  Double up on this by using Gemstone and Crystal jewellery to get the Metaphysical benefits of the colour and the properties of the stone.

Turquoise

Turquoise is sacred to both Native American and oriental traditions.

It is associated with the sky and bringing sky energy to earth.

It can help promote honest and clear communication from the heart. It is also said to protect against pollution in the environment, and to bring abundance.

Turquoise can also help speed the healing process and is known as a master healer stone. It is immensely powerful for grounding and protection also.

The Metaphysical Properties of the Colour Turquoise may also have some useful information.

Turquoise

The metaphysical properties of this colour

Turquoise colour properties

In this series of posts on the properties of colour I have included an overview of the metaphysical properties and information on some colours and the chakras that they relate to.  I have also included some lessons and affirmations.

Later, in a more in-depth series, I will build on the properties of these colours and how you can use them to your benefit.

Having studied the Aura Soma system of Colour Therapy to the Advanced Level I find the natural benefits of vibrations from colour intriguing and I’m always trying to find out more information on this subject.

Turquoise

Connecting to the Aquarian principles, the new age, Turquoise has a trans-dimensional quality.  It is able to communicate, reaching many people simultaneously (silicon chip).

Turquoise communicates of the heart / feelings creatively – poetry / dance / acting / etc, using the whole of emotional expression.

This colour is insightful, idealistic, liberal, flexible, receptive. It projects a calm cool exterior, likes its own company and is self reliant with a humanitarian independence.

Turquoise is wonderful at teaching, public speaking and using new technologies. There is a spontaneity and playfulness associated with this colour. A freedom loving side which trusts the inner teacher / intuition.

The Ananda Khanda (bliss centre), sits in Turquoise, as do attitudinal healing, the collective mind and cohesion. There is a lack of Ego under this colour.

The Lesson for Turquoise is

"Difficulty communicating feelings".

Speaking one’s truth, and creative blocks can be other lessons under this colour.

There is a need to find peace in the heart, to say what is felt. To be flexible. There can be difficulty reaching out, This colour can be delusional, deceptive, cool or distant and can be associated with the control and misuse of power.

Turquoise can create and live in a fantasy world full of emotional drama and mental turmoil. This colour can be unconscious on all levels (shut off from the light), not aware or connected.

The need for Turquoise is

"to express their feelings".

An affirmation suitable for this colour is

"I am an individual".

Of course, this won’t happen just by saying it once off. Each and every time you feel unworthy or stuck in the past, just focus on the affirmation of your choice.

Other affirmations that would be suitable for this colour are “I accept myself as I am” and “There is time for me”

This colour connects with

Atlantis, Aztecs, Ancient civilizations, Angels, UFO’s, Interdimentional energies.

Chakra and Physical areas associated with Turquoise are the New Age Heart – higher right side.

Physical areas under Turquoise are the Thymus – immune system, immuno-deficient conditions, lungs and respiratory organs, shoulders (upper), back.

Crystals / Gems

That may provide assistance with these issues

Crystals / gems (in their turquoise form) are Turquoise, Silicon Glass, Amazonite, Chrysocolla, Aquamarine, Some of the green/blue gems may be suitable here.

You may find wearing or using these or other Turquoise items provides assistance when dealing with any of this colours lessons or if you wish to draw on its benefits.

Clothing is another easy way to benefit from the energy of colour.  Turquoise isn’t your favourite colour?  Use socks or underwear in this colour as a great way of reminding yourself that you are connected and have confidence – and no-one will know.

If that doesn’t suit you, how about turquoise or aqua sheets or throws with this colour in the pattern (or just a pillowcase) or bathe in bath-salts in this gorgeous colour.

Drink a Turquoise Daiquiri or similar (responsibly).   Swim in the ocean.  All these things will just hold your attention and remind you that you are on a journey to reconnect.

Care for your turquoise jewellery stones

Cleaning & Caring: Turquoise

Natural Turquoise is a porous stone so please treat with care

Natural Turquoise is a phosphate mineral with a MOHS hardness which ranges from 4.5 to 6 and as such is easily damaged by hair and body cosmetics, even the oils from the skin can damage the stones surface.  To protect your turquoise, it is recommended you put your jewellery on after applying makeup, sunscreen or perfume, and never wear it in the shower, bath or swimming pool

Heat and sunlight can cause Natural Turquoise to discolour or dehydrate.  This is not a stone to be worn on a day at the beach.

Natural turquoise has no artificial changes made to the gem.  It is just cut and polished.  Only high-quality turquoise can be used in its natural state.  As you will see, most of what is sold as Turquoise may not be natural or even Turquoise.

The colour of the stone may change gradually as body oils and other sources of moisture are absorbed into the stones, creating a lovely patina.

The colour of natural Turquoise can range from a vibrant blue to a green to brownish green with the webbing being black, brown, yellow or a host of other colours.

Stabilized or Enhanced Turquoise?

Most of the Turquoise found on today’s market has been treated or enhanced in some way which makes the stone more readily available to a wider customer base, otherwise it would generally be too expensive for most shoppers.

Stabilized Turquoise has an epoxy resin or similar infused into the pores of the stone. It’s no longer porous after treatment and will no longer discolour.

Stabilization allows the use of poorer-quality Turquoise that might otherwise not be suitable for jewellery.

Some dealers provide Turquoise in varying colours to the jewellery industry but be aware that much of this Turquoise has been dyed or manipulated in other ways or may not be Turquoise at all.

Dyed Howlite?

It is thought that approximately 90% of Turquoise on the market today is actually dyed Howlite or Magnesite.  Howlite is an absorbent white mineral that can be dyed in almost any colour imaginable. It has a natural webbing or matrix which is almost identical to the webbing in natural Turquoise. Since this webbing is basically impossible to manufacture it is easier to use an existing mineral that has the same properties.   Magnesite is another soft, porous stone with similar natural veining to that of Turquoise. Magnesite can be found in a small variety of colours naturally but is mostly a milky white colour. The porousness of this stone makes it ideal for taking on dyes to imitate Turquoise.

There is nothing wrong with this if the customer is aware of what they are gettingLike all things with gemstones and fraudsters, it is far more profitable to sell something that looks like Turquoise than the actual stone.

Howlite is a softer stone with a MOHS hardness of about 3.5 while Magnesite ranges from 3.5 – 4.5 and this is one way to distinguish the difference from Turquoise.  Another way is to see if the stone has been dyed by wiping a small section with a cotton bud dipped in nail polish remover.

Even though it is disappointing if you find that you have been duped, both Howlite and Magnesite have interesting Metaphysical Properties.

Storage & Cleaning

Store your natural turquoise in a dark place away from harder stones or settings which may damage the stone.  Keep turquoise away from high heat and chemicals such as oils, perfumes, and household cleaners. Even stabilized turquoise can be affected by a constant bombardment of chemicals.

Clean your turquoise in warm water with the addition of a gentle soap if needed.  Do not leave it to soak in water and dry it immediately with a soft cloth. Turquoise is a porous gemstone that absorbs liquid.

Avoid using commercial jewellery cleaning liquids and never use steam or ultrasonic cleaners.
